From January to April 2017, China’s coatings industry recorded a total output of 5.9615 million tonnes, representing a year-on-year increase of only 2.6%, a marked deceleration compared with the recent trend in industry development.

Among them, the top five provinces and municipalities in terms of output are Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Sichuan, and Hunan, with outputs of 1.247 million tonnes, 743,000 tonnes, 672,000 tonnes, 432,000 tonnes, and 388,000 tonnes, respectively. Year-on-year growth rates were 14.4%, 7.6%, 18%, –4.7%, and 3.1%, respectively. Notably, Guangdong’s coatings output continues to grow robustly at a high level, indicating that although the earlier boom in the real estate sector has somewhat subsided, cyclical factors in the construction industry mean that market demand for architectural coatings remains at a peak.
