2023/08/31
On September 22–23, a five-member delegation led by Shan Zhongli, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Trade Union of China Chengtong, visited Huaxin Packaging to conduct a research visit and provide guidance on trade union work. The delegation was accompanied by Huang Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of China Paper, Ren Xiaoping, Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Huaxin Packaging, and other members of Huaxin Packaging’s Party and administrative leadership team.

On September 22, Shan Zhongli and his delegation first visited Huaxin Packaging’s subsidiaries, Zhuhai Huafeng Paper Co., Ltd. and Zhuhai Jinji Chemical Co., Ltd., to conduct on-site inspections of workplace safety, operational processes, and product quality. During the visit, Shan Zhongli engaged in cordial conversations with frontline employees, carefully inquiring about their working and living conditions as well as any challenges they faced, and attentively listening to their concerns from the front lines. In the automated control room of Jinji Chemical, Shan Zhongli learned that the system is designed to provide 24-hour monitoring and management of storage tanks and equipment operations, which he highly commended and emphasized must always prioritize workplace safety.

Subsequently, Shan Zhongli and his delegation visited Zhuhai Hongta Renheng Packaging Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Huaxin Packaging, where they toured the biomass-fueled boiler and other facilities and held a symposium. At the symposium, Ren Xiaoping, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hongta Renheng, and Yang Dongmei, Chairperson of the Trade Union, each presented reports on Party building and trade union work; Li Haibin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of Guanhao High-Tech, and Yang Yinghui, Chairperson of the Trade Union, also each delivered reports on Party building and trade union work; and Li Yaoyu, Chairperson of the Trade Union of Chengtong Logistics, presented a report on trade union activities.

At the meeting, Shan Zhongli delivered a concluding address, fully commending the achievements of all units in recent years. Drawing on the theme of this trade union research visit, he put forward three key requirements and reflections regarding the production, operations, and trade union work of each unit: First, we must steadfastly uphold the people-centered development philosophy, wholeheartedly rely on employees in running the enterprise, and effectively safeguard the interests of the workforce. As entities in the real economy and manufacturing, with large workforces, how can trade unions better integrate their activities with business operations to further highlight the workers’ status as masters of the enterprise and truly implement the people-centered development philosophy? This calls for continuous reflection and exploration. Second, we must embrace the new development philosophy, rigorously focus on quality and efficiency, and promote sustainable enterprise development. Only when enterprises are high-quality and sustainably managed will employees have hope for their jobs and for a better life—only then can the people-centered development philosophy be genuinely put into practice. In light of the current challenges facing enterprises, how can we leverage thematic education to advance rectification and implementation, drive high-quality development, and enhance operational performance? These are questions that require ongoing reflection and exploration. Third, we must ensure that Party building leads trade union development, continuously strengthening the appeal, cohesion, and combat effectiveness of trade union organizations. While organizing labor competitions and cultural and sports activities, we must also promote the spirit of model workers and the spirit of craftsmanship, earnestly address the pressing and difficult issues of concern to the masses, and build trade unions that are vocal and trusted by employees. At the grassroots level, how can trade union organizations accurately define their role and fully exert their influence—becoming promoters of the Party’s cause and trusted “homes” for employees? This too requires constant reflection and exploration.

On September 23, Shan Zhongli visited Huaxin (Foshan) Color Printing Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Huaxin Packaging, to conduct an inspection and study. He highly commended the company’s plant appearance and the positive spirit of its employees, noting that, as a modern, green factory, Huaxin Color Printing should not only maintain top-notch physical infrastructure but also place particular emphasis on corporate culture development, striving to foster a bright and harmonious corporate atmosphere. At the subsequent symposium on research and discussion, Zhang Chunhua, Secretary of the Party Branch and General Manager of Huaxin Color Printing, and Gao Mingxing, Member of the Party Branch Committee and Deputy General Manager, each delivered reports on the company’s business operations and trade union work.

Shan Zhongli commended Huaxin Color Printing for its achievements and set forth the following requirements for the next phase of work: Huaxin Color Printing is well positioned to aim high and pursue excellence; it must carry out reform and development in accordance with the directives of its superior authorities, and make sustained, concerted efforts to build itself into a world-class enterprise. It must uphold the leadership of the Party, strengthen Party building, integrate Party building into all aspects of corporate operations, fully leverage the role of Party organizations as strong bastions of combat, and ensure that Party work serves the company’s production, operations, and strategic development. Moreover, it must implement the people-centered development philosophy, taking the sincere service of employees as both the starting point and the ultimate goal of trade union work, continuously strengthening trade union activities so that employees genuinely feel the care and concern of the organization, and building a solid, reliable, first-rate grassroots trade union.
